STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2025-01-21 (Week 4) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * Reminder: Dan Wilson will be preparing an annual spacecraft health assessment. All of the instrument teams should have received an email requesting a short slide deck to be provided by January 31, if possible. * DSN is trying to increase available downlink time by shortening the time allotted for track setup from 1 hour to 45 minutes. These changes are reflected in the track schedules beginning in week 5. INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 3 (Jan 13-19) * On day 013 (Jan 13), during the DSS-35 support, the antenna was declared red due to pedestal water flooding. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 2.7 hours of real-time telemetry, commanding, tracking and SSR data. The MOPs team disabled the SSR playback prior to the track and recovered all the affected data during the subsequent DSS-55 track. See DR #C118244 for more information. The DSS-35 recovery from the water flooding event has been changed to an estimated return to operation on DOY 038, therefore all DSS-35 tracks in weeks 3-5 have been cancelled and replaced with other antennas. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 7.3 Gbits during this week. Week 4 (Jan 20-26) * APL was closed on Monday, January 20, for the Martin Luther King, Jr holiday. * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Two ESA New Norcia tracks were added to the schedule to accommodate the DSS-35 recovery efforts. Week 5 (Jan 27 - Feb 2) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 6 (Feb 3-9) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * There is a DSN network maintenance event scheduled for Wednesday, February 5. Week 7 (Feb 10-16) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 8 (Feb 17-23) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Solar Orbiter will have a Venus flyby on Tuesday, February 18. STEREO does not currently have any special observations planned for this event. * The 174th momentum dump is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, at 18:45 UT. Week 9 (Feb 24 - Mar 2) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal.
