STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2025-01-07 (Week 1) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * Reminder: Jimmy will be out for the first six months of the year for military service. Cliff Williams will be standing in. * The instrument teams will be having a hybrid meeting at APL on March 3, possibly extending to March 4 if there is sufficient interest. Terry Kucera will send out invitations soon; any interested party is welcome to attend. INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 51 (Dec 16-22) * On day 352 (Dec 17), DSN conducted a Mission Network Maintenance from 00:00 UT through 04:00 UT. After the maintenance, the MOPs team verified the SLE telemetry and command connectivity with DSN. * On day 352 (Dec 17), during the DSS-65 support, the transmitter was declared red, due to a hardware problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 3.9 hours of real-time commanding and 2-way tracking data. See DR #M117537 for more information. * On day 354 (Dec 19), the DSS-25 Project Interface Test (PIT) was conducted successfully. The purpose was to validate Data Capture & Delivery (DCD) software version 10.1. The MOC received telemetry and sent four commands. * On day 355 (Dec 20), fine pointing was lost intermittently beginning at 01:30 UT through 04:42 UT. These occurrences were due to the reaction wheels operating at low speeds with no gyro operations. These transients can occur with no gyro operations and are not indicative of any problem with the spacecraft G&C. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 8.1 Gbits during this week. Week 52 (Dec 23-29) * On day 360 (Dec 25), during the DSS-53 support, the transmitter was declared red, due to a hardware problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 1.5 hours of real-time commanding and 2-way tracking data. See DR #M117556 for more information. * On day 364 (Dec 29), during the DSS-65 support, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly at 07:48 UT. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 165 frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. See DR #M117573 for more information. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 8.2 Gbits during this week. Week 1 (Dec 30-Jan 5) * There were no ground system or spacecraft anomalies/events during the week. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 8.1 Gbits during this week. Week 2 (Jan 6-12) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * A problem occurred during the DSS-54 support on Monday that interfered with X-band downlink and uplink communications. Affected data was recovered during subsequent tracks and full details will be available next week. * The 173rd momentum dump is scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, at 18:00 UT. Week 3 (Jan 13-19) * Ahead has eleven passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 4 (Jan 20-26) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * APL will be closed on Monday, January 20, for the Martin Luther King, Jr holiday. Week 5 (Jan 27 - Feb 2) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 6 (Feb 3-9) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * There is a DSN network maintenance event scheduled for Wednesday, February 5. Week 7 (Feb 10-16) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal.
