STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2024-12-17 (Week 51) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * Dan Wilson will be preparing an annual spacecraft health assessment, and will need a short slide deck from all of the instrument teams and the SSC by January 31st. Please look for his email. * Reminder: Jimmy will be out for the first six months of the year for military service. Cliff Williams will be standing in. INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 50 (Dec 09-15) * On day 344 (Dec 9), during the DSS-65 support, the uplink was not available between 06:45 UT and 08:50 UT, due to a transmitter hardware problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 2.1 hours of commanding, 2-way tracking, and 5313 frames of SSR data. After the uplink was established, the MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers and recovered all of the affected data. See DR #M117523 for more information. * On day 345 (Dec 10), during the DSS-65 support, the transmitter was declared red, due to a hardware problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 1.9 hours of real-time commanding and 2-way tracking data. See DR #G124850 for more information. * On day 344 (Dec 9), the MOPs team successfully conducted the 17th battery discharge event at 18:40 UT to redistribute the electrolytes within the nickel hydrogen battery cells. * On day 348 (Dec 13), the 73rd SECCHI stepped calibration was executed at 15:50 UT for aphelion in the Ahead orbit. This was the 42nd SECCHI stepped calibration roll conducted without gyro use. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 7.5 Gbits during this week. Week 51 (Dec 16-22) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * A DSN network maintenance event was successfully conducted early this morning. * There is a PIT test with station 25 scheduled for Thursday, December 19th, from 17:50 to 19:35 UT. There will be no SSR playback or instrument commanding during this test. * Beginning Friday, December 20th, SECCHI will be conducting special observations in conjunction with the Parker Solar Probe perihelion, through December 29 (days 355-364). Week 52 (Dec 23-29) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * On Tuesday, December 24th, Solar Orbiter will have an off-point event in conjunction with the Parker Solar Probe perihelion. * APL will have a half day on Tuesday, December 24th and will be closed all day on Wednesday, December 25th, for the Christmas holiday. * There will be no telecon during the week, due to the holidays. Week 1 (Dec 30-Jan 5) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * APL will have a half day on Tuesday, December 31, and will be closed all day on Wednesday, January 1st for the New Year holiday. * There will be no telecon during the week, due to the holidays. Week 2 (Jan 6-12) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 173rd momentum dump is scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, at 18:00 UT. Week 3 (Jan 13-19) * Ahead has eleven passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 4 (Jan 20-26) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * APL will be closed on Monday, January 20, for the Martin Luther King, Jr holiday.
