STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2024-10-01 (Week 40) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * Owen Dudley has returned. Many thanks to Tim Coulter for filling in. INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 39 (Sep 23-29) * On day 267 (Sep 23), during the DSS-56 support, the transmitter tripped offline at 06:31 UT, due to a hardware problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 21 minutes of commanding, 2-way ranging, and 4008 frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the track and recovered all the affected data. See DR #M117360 for more information. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 6.8 Gbits during this week. Week 40 (Sep 30 - Oct 6) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 16th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window ends Monday, September 30th. * The 17th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Wednesday, October 2nd. * A DSN network maintenance event is scheduled from Wednesday, October 2nd at 23:00 UT to 06:00 UT on Thursday, October 3rd. * SECCHI observations of the Parker Solar Probe Perihelion ends Saturday, October 5th. Week 41 (Oct 7-13) * Ahead has ten passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 42 (Oct 14-20) * Ahead has ten passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 17th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window ends Tuesday, October 15th. * The 18th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Thursday, October 17th. * On Thursday, October 17th, from 14:00-16:00 UT, DMZ and/or DSN connections may be disrupted due to a software firewall update. Instrument teams should verify connectivity following this event. Week 43 (Oct 21-27) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 171st momentum dump is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd, with ignition at 18:30 UT. * The 18th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window ends Saturday, October 26th. * Saturday, October 26th, is the eighteenth STEREO launch anniversary. Week 44 (Oct 28 - Nov 3) * Ahead has nine passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. However, station diversity for the week is low, with 4 out of 8 tracks for the week scheduled on the same station. * An ESA Cebreros track is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30 from 01:40 to 02:20 UT. * Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, Nov 3. Week 45 (Nov 4-10) * Ahead has nine passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * On Wednesday, November 6th, Parker Solar Probe has a Venus flyby, and Solar Orbiter will be collecting observations for a full-disk mosaic.
