Proposal for SECCHI Sidelobe Realtime Telemetry Utilization Use of telemetry in addition to Original Proposal (below): Side Lobe 2: Use Rice Compression 256x256 (rather than Icer10) for 2 HI-1 images and 1 HI-2 image per 2 hours. (+325 bps) We note that Rice-compressed images are expected to be more tolerant of loss of telemetry blocks with marginal downlink. Also, the degradation of star images will make it impossible or very difficult to reconstruct pointing attitudes using background stars. For comparisons, see attached sets of images. 20140509_h1A_bright_cme.pdf 1st image is a standard difference image derived from secchi-prepped 1024x1024 s4 data (Rice compression). Note that in addition to the bright CME there is a lot of fainter structure visible further away from the Sun, particularly towards the top of the image. 2nd image is the same data but binned down to 256x256. Note that the fainter structure is still clearly visible (obviously an image binned down to 512x512 corresponding to 1st sidelobe operations will have image quality closer to the 1024x1024 image). 3rd image is derived from 256x256 s7 beacon mode data from around the same time (Icer10 compression).
